Supporting and encouraging the establishment and development of new enterprise

Worldwide experience has shown that new business enterprises started in the environment of a business enterprise centre (business incubator) enjoy a success rate as high as 85% after three years. This contrasts with a very high failure rate, which can be as high as 90% within the first three years

There are more than 3,000 business incubators throughout the world and the principles and practicality of the assistance they provide for fledging businesses has been tested and refined over many years.

The Welshpool Business Enterprise Centre (Inc) was officially opened on 14th October 1993. It was the first purposely built incubator in Australia and the second to be established in Western Australia.

WBEC was awarded an Australian Design Mark Award in 1995 for its design of providing an environment to encourage and support new small business in their formative years.

The first of the buildings included 2 office blocks (consisting of 16 units, 2 workshop blocks (6 units), and the Cafe. Another 3 workshop units were added two years later, together with a training/conference room "The Learning Exchange".

In 1998 an additional office block was built with 3 large office units, a training room, together with 3 larger workshop units. These new workshops each include a mezzanine floor for storage, or office store.
